The Goal of Teaching English to Young Learners



Teaching English to young learners is not easy as teaching english to adult and teenagers. It has the goals which we have to reach. There are three main goals of teaching english to young learners.
The first goal is content goal. Content goal means that the teacher have to teach them the content of English such as vocabulary,introduce the function of expression like the word “excuse me”,”pardon me”, “be careful”,etc.
The second goal is attitude goal. In the attitude goal, the teacher motivate the student to learn,encourage them to communicate in English,establish their confidence,and make them interest in English. It means that the teacher have to make the students know that English is fun.
The last one is educational goal. Educational goal include understanding other culture and understanding speaker of other language. Learning English is not mean that the learner just know English but they also have to know about the speakers of the language. The learners have to understand the culture of the English speaker in order to make them know more about English because culture is related to the language. Children will not understand the language deeply if they have negative attitude towards the language and culture.
In cunclusion, the goals of teaching English to young learners are content goal, attitude goal, and educational goal.
